To find out more about the celebration of children, click on the new website to the left of the page. It is under Blogroll.

I have also included a fantastic site where you can see the locations of all of the tremors that happen here each day. We can’t feel them all though. Enjoy!

Hello!

You were right! It was 8:50 in Connecticut when I was going to sleep last night. Great math thinking!

Today, Wednesday, we had breakfast in our hotel. I had eggs, toast and fruit. Oh, and a cup of coffee – of course. You know me.

I took a few pictures of my view from the hotel. One of the mountains might be Mount Fuji. They call it Fuji-san here. morningfrom-hotel.jpg Can you tell which side of the road people drive on?tokyo-hotel-road.jpg

Here are the answers to SOME of your questions: I haven’t seen any carp yet. It is about 60 degree F here, warmer than I thought it would be. I wish I had a thermos. We spend a lot of time on busses touring and I get thirsty. Today we went to see a shrine and the Diet – where the goverment votes on laws. Today was a holiday too. It was a celebration of girls turning three and seven, and boys turning five. Here is a photo of a three-year-old girl who is going to the shrine. holiday-for-children.jpg

The man sitting next to me in the photo from our dinner last night was another teacher from a different state. We got randomly assigned to go out to eat with a few teachers and one person from Japan. The man from Japan chose the restaurant and ordered off of the menu for us – so we don’t really know what we were eating.

I can’t wait to show you all of the photos of the structures. We have talked about the different loads that structures have to stand up to. All of the structures here have to be built to stand up to an earthquake load. I thought I felt a little shake the other night. Someone said there was a small earthquake here. It just felt like the building was swaying a bit. I thought I was just tired, or maybe the building was just being flexible for the wind load. Maybe I was really feeling an earthquake. Wow!

I am trying to answer most of your questions and I’m glad you keep checking! I can’t wait to see you all and tell you about it in person.
